We use a Work Sampling System to illustrate the various domains of your child’s development. Throughout the year, we collect drawing and writing samples, conversation transcripts, and observations that demonstrate the ways that your child is developing in the social/emotional, small and large motor, cognitive, and language domains. The Early Childhood Division’s Curriculum details these developmental domains.
Play is how young children learn: it fosters children’s development in all areas—creative arts, social, emotion, cognitive, language, literacy, math, science, and physical. Observations of play therefore yield rich information on children’s abilities and development.
The Profile gives an overview of each domain, and the Portfolio provides more detailed glimpses into your child’s development.
